What is a cycle?

A cycle is any financial period you define — a month, a paycheck, a two-week stretch, or any custom date range. Every bill, expense, income, and payment you track in Finlo belongs to exactly one cycle. Cycles are the foundation the whole app is built on: your dashboard, reports, and planning tool always show data for the cycle you have selected.

Creating a cycle

Tap New cycle from the dashboard header and fill in:

  • Name — something recognizable, like "April 2026" or "Paycheck 1 – Apr". Names must be unique and can't repeat an existing cycle's name.

  • Start date and end date — the range this cycle covers. Cycles can't overlap with any of your existing cycles, and the end date must come after the start date.

  • Initial income (optional) — if you're starting the cycle with money already in hand, enter it here and Finlo creates an income transaction dated to the start of the cycle automatically.

  • Bank account (optional) — pick which account that initial income lands in, or leave it as your default account.

To save you time, the start date is pre-filled to the day right after your last cycle ended.

Open, closed, and future cycles

A cycle becomes read-only automatically once its end date passes — no need to close it yourself. You can also close a cycle early from the "⋮" menu on the dashboard header. A cycle that hasn't started yet (its start date is in the future) is also read-only until it begins — you can create it ahead of time, but you can't add transactions to it until its start date arrives

Free plan limit

Free accounts can keep up to 3 cycles. Upgrading to PRO removes that limit if you want to track further back or plan further ahead.
